ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office-6 has beefed up bike patrols in Western Visayas as fuel prices increased to the Middle East conflict.
Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan, PRO-6 director, said the bike patrol is part of their austerity measures while sustaining police visibility.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to remain responsive and innovative despite operational challenges. By maximizing available resources, we ensure that public safety services are not compromised,” said Ligan in a statement.
The bike patrol started with 50 policemen assigned in Camp Delgado, the PRO-6 headquarters here, and is conducted every Tuesday and Thursday in lieu of regular physical exercises.
Ligan said that they did not purchase these bikes. Police are using their personal bikes. The bike patrol is prioritized in urbanized areas, including business districts and other high-foot-traffic areas.
He directed police in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as in the regional capital of Iloilo City to beef up bike patrols.
