Authorities are hunting down suspects who posed as local government birthday cake delivery staff and robbed a house in Quezon City, reportedly stealing over P1 million worth of cash, vehicles, and other valuables.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said the incident occurred inside the house of the victims in San Bartolome, Novaliches, Quezon City on April 7.
Based on the investigation, a female suspect carrying a cake rang the victims’ doorbell and claimed it was sent by the mayor at around 4 p.m.
Authorities said one of the victims opened the door, allowing the woman to gain entry. Subsequently, four other men and another female suspect forcibly entered the house and restrained the victims at gunpoint.
The suspects then tied up the victims and covered their faces with a cloth before taking cash, vehicles, gadgets, and assorted jewelry, and fleeing aboard a white Toyota Innova.
Police said the stolen items include two motorcycles, a Yamaha Aerox and Nmax; a red Mazda sedan; multiple cellphones; laptops; a CCTV DVR; watches; assorted gold jewelry; an iPhone 14 Pro Max; and P80,000 cash.
After the suspects fled, the victims managed to free themselves and immediately reported the incident to subdivision security, who coordinated with Barangay San Bartolome and Police Station 4.
During a follow-up operation, authorities identified the plate number of the suspects’ getaway vehicle through CCTV footage. Verification with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) revealed that the vehicle was registered to a certain Maureen.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as “Regin,” who was later arrested, had rented the white Innova on April 5 for P5,000, supposedly for a team-building event, and later switched to a red Toyota Vios sedan after the robbery.
Authorities were able to locate Regin along Commonwealth Avenue near Litex in Quezon City through a GPS tracker installed in the Toyota Vios.
Operatives immediately responded and successfully cornered the vehicle. Upon alighting, the suspect was found with a handgun tucked into his waist, leading to his immediate arrest at 7:01 p.m. on April 8. Recovered from the suspect were a firearm loaded with five live ammunition and several personal items belonging to the victims.
Meanwhile, during the custodial investigation, police presented a rogues’ gallery to the victims, which led to the identification of the suspect’s accomplices as alias “Herbert,” 35; “Crispin,” 48; “Hagibis,” 25; “Jeanalyn,” 42; and alias “Jhen.”
According to police, alias Jhen has previous cases involving multiple counts of swindling (estafa) from 2018 to 2022. Herbert previously faced cases for violation of R.A. 9165 in February 2022, alarms and scandals in March 2023, theft and robbery, and violation of R.A. 6539 in April 2025. Jeanalyn also has prior cases for swindling (estafa) in March 2024 and October 2025, as well as theft in February 2026. Hagibis likewise has a previous case for swindling (estafa) filed in December 2021.
The arrested suspect will be charged for robbery, R.A. 10883 (New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016) and R.A. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
QCPD chief PBGen. Randy Glenn Silvio said police continue to conduct manhunt operations to arrest the remaining suspects.
