P5,000 cash aid for transport sector in Bulacan rolled out
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started distributing P5,000 in financial assistance to tricycle drivers and operators in Malolos, Bulacan, as fuel prices continue to rise due to the conflict in the Middle East.
The distribution took place at the covered court of Sta. Isabel Elementary School in Barangay Bagong Bayan, where thousands of beneficiaries from 86 Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA) gathered.
On the first day, at least 4,337 drivers and operators received the subsidy. The second and third batches followed on April 9 and 10, with thousands more tricycle drivers benefiting from the program.
On April 1, the City Government of Malolos led by Mayor Christian D. Natividad provided P3,000 in additional assistance to local drivers.
The DSWD said cash aid for jeepney drivers will be distributed soon after verification.
Some beneficiaries, however, were unable to claim their subsidy due to discrepancies in their names.
One driver’s son lamented that his father, who queued for hours, was denied assistance because his middle and last names were interchanged.
He urged the agency to show flexibility, noting that his father’s identity could be verified through his license.
“Malaking tulong po yan sa bawat pamilya, kaya po marami ang umaasa sa good consideration na ilalaan ng DSWD (This is a big help to every family, so many are hoping for the fair consideration that the DSWD will extend),” he said, stressing the importance of the aid to struggling households.
