DepEd expands Friday WFH to school staff, orders no disruption in operations

School-based non-teaching and related teaching personnel will now be covered by the Department of Education’s (DepEd) work-from-home (WFH) arrangement every Friday, under an updated memorandum that also directs schools to maintain uninterrupted operations.
Are trimester shifts in Philippine schools a real solution to the education crisis—or just a calendar change? Teachers question whether the planned trimester shift for SY 2026–2027 can improve learning outcomes or simply mask deeper systemic issues in Philippine education, including shortages, underfunding, and overcrowded classrooms. In a memorandum posted on Thursday night, April 9, amending its March 11, 2026 issuance, the department said the flexible work arrangement (FWA) will adopt a four-day onsite work schedule from Monday to Thursday, with WFH every Friday.
This is part of the department's energy conservation protocols.
The policy will be implemented from April 10 to June 5, 2026, in line with the department’s energy conservation efforts and consistent with DepEd Memorandum No. 018, s. 2026, which outlines protocols on energy conservation and flexible work arrangements.
DepEd said school heads are responsible for ensuring that the implementation of WFH schedules does not disrupt essential school operations, and that appropriate staffing arrangements are maintained as needed.
All other provisions of DepEd Memorandum No. 018, s. 2026, as well as the March 11 clarificatory memorandum, not affected by the amendment, will remain in effect.
The department directed the immediate dissemination of and strict compliance with the updated memorandum.
