BACOLOD CITY – A police anti-drug operative was shot dead by a 32-year-old drug pusher in a buy-bust operation in front of a lodging house in Barangay Singcang-Airport here on Thursday night, April 9.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) condemned the senseless act of violence and assured that justice will be served to Police Master Sgt. Romulo Galvez of the Drug Enforcement Team of the Bacolod City Police Station 9.
Investigation said the suspect suddenly shot the victim with a .45 caliber pistol in the right thigh.
He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead after midnight Friday, April 10, due to hypovolemic shock secondary to a bullet wound.
Police arrested the suspect. Recovered from him were five sachets of suspected marijuana valued at P48,000, the P500 marked money, and the gun with a magazine loaded with five bullets.
Drug, murder, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition are being readied against the suspect.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, mourned the death of the victim and assured swift assistance and accountability and immediate support to the bereaved family.
“This is a sad day, and with heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of Police Master Sgt. Galvez who gave his life in the line of duty,” Ibay said, adding that his courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
