BARONDA
Iloilo City Rep. Julienne “Jam-Jam” Baronda urged riding app companies to slash their commissions for drivers to ease the impact of the fuel crisis from the Middle East conflict.
“Slashing commission during this critical period is not merely a financial adjustment; it is a vital lifeline,” Baronda said in a letter addressed to Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) companies Grab Philippines, InDrive, Angkas, Maxim, JoyRide, and MoveIt.
Baronda noted that drivers are suffering while passengers are protected with stable fare rates.
She urged TNVS companies to strengthen their corporate social responsibility (CSR) by temporarily reducing their commissions and ensuring drivers still have enough to take home for their families.
“By allowing drivers to retain a larger portion of each fare, you are directly mitigating the impact of the fuel crisis and ensuring that their service remains sustainable,” Baronda added.
The lady lawmaker said that TNVS companies should also take into consideration the welfare of drivers as the national government and local governments are looking into long-term subsidies for them.
