BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Greg Gasataya condemned the murder of a police officer in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Singcang-Airport here.
“An attack on our police force is a direct attack on the safety, security, and peace of every Bacolodnon, and it is a challenge we will not leave unanswered,” Gasataya said.
Gasataya met the wife of Police Master Sgt. Romulo Galvez and extended financial assistance to his family and committed to provide support.
The mayor also met Police Col. Eugene Rebadomia, Bacolod police director, to ensure the suspect is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Gasataya said that Galvez died a hero in the line of duty, making the ultimate sacrifice in the city's ongoing pursuit of peace, justice, and the eradication of the illegal drugs trade. “His bravery will not be forgotten,” he added.
Galvez, a member of the drug enforcement unit of the Police Station 9, was shot by a 32-year-old suspected drug pusher on April 9 and died the following day.
On Thursday, Galvez served multiple warrants of arrest and the city acknowledged his dedication and commitment to his duties.
The city government said Galvez exemplified the highest standard of duty and is a true hero of Bacolod City.
“We honor his sacrifice by ensuring that the justice he so bravely defended is delivered absolutely and without compromise,” the mayor said.
