Pampanga congresswoman and former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has denied involvement in any alleged plan to unseat House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III.
"I categorically deny the allegations concerning the supposed ouster of Speaker Bojie Dy that surfaced yesterday," Arroyo, who represents the province’s 2nd district, said in a short statement to House of Representatives reporters om Friday morning, April 10.
She was referring to rumors that Vice President Sara Duterte was pushing for her speakership, and that there was an ongoing "recruitment" of House members for this purpose.
Arroyo is a perceived ally of the Vice President, who is currently the subject of impeachment proceedings in the 300-plus strong legislative chamber.
Speaking of Dy, Arroyo said: "I reaffirm my confidence in his leadership of the House of Representatives. Our mutual support, which began many years ago with his late father, remains unbroken."
Dy, Isabela's 6th district representative, became House leader in September 2025 or shortly after the current 20th Congress began.
Arroyo served as Philippine president from 2001 to 2010. She continues to be an influential political figure in the House.
She was even installed as House Speaker in July 2018, during the tail end of then 17th Congress, following the ouster of then-Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
