ILOILO CITY – Authorities have warned people to avoid eating ‘’aloy’’ or ‘’tulingan’’ after 20 people in Iloilo province were suspected to have been poisoned by the fish.
Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, chief of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO), said it is best to avoid this type of fish as confirmatory tests are ongoing.
Dr. Rodney Labis of the IPHO Health Service Delivery Division said 17 were admitted to hospitals for scombroid poisoning.
Six cases were recorded in Passi City, three each in the towns of Balasan, Banate, Dumangas, and San Enrique, and one in the towns of Dueñas and Mina.
Tulingan poisoning was first reported in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental recently. Suspected cases were also recorded in Capiz province.
The technical team of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is currently investigating these cases and tracing where the fish came from.
