P137-M aid released to 27,549 tricycle drivers

BACOLOD CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development released P137.295 million in cash relief assistance to 27,549 tricycle drivers on the first day of the payout in Negros Island Region on Wednesday.
Negros Occidental, including this highly-urbanized city, disbursed a total of P117.770 million to 23,554 drivers, and Negros Oriental released P19.525 million to 3,905 drivers.
This was 96.06 percent of the April 8 target of 28,584 drivers. A total of 1,125 drivers or 3.94 percent have yet to claim their assistance.
The agency has a total target of 34,974 tricycle drivers. Payout will be until April 10.
Mayor Greg Gasataya here said there were only minimal complaints on the first day of payout but these were properly addressed.
He thanked the national government and the DSWD for providing assistance to tricycle drivers amid the global oil crisis.
“We are hands on in ensuring everything will be in order and to reach more to avail of the aid,” the mayor said.
Meanwhile, Gasataya honored the bravery and courage of Filipino soldiers during a ceremony here on Araw ng Kagitingan.
Gasataya emphasized that heroism is not only seen in history but also in everyday life.
He said Filipinos continue to show courage through their daily efforts—working, studying, and supporting one another despite rising fuel costs.
Bacolod Rep. Albee Benitez and Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, director of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) also honored fallen heroes, urging Filipinos to draw strength from their legacy and continue working together for the nation.
