5 dead, 7 injured in bus-rescue vehicle collision in Camarines Sur
LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Five people were killed and seven were injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a rescue vehicle on Andaya Highway in Barangay Port Junction Sur, Ragay town, Camarines Sur province on Wednesday night, April 8.
Police identified the fatalities as Nestor, a resident of Barangay Cabutagan in Lupi, Camarines Sur; Myles; Angela, 25; John, 28; and James.
Injured were Jayson, 27, a resident of Colacling, Lupi; John, 22, from Cabutagan, Lupi; Richard, from Barangay Tapi, Lupi; Justin, 22; Marcela, 22; Mark, a five-month-old infant from Barangay Poblacion, Lupi; and an unidentified individual.
Victims were reportedly passengers of the rescue vehicle.
Initial investigation said a Mark Eves Transit passenger bus was traversing Andaya Highway approximately 18 kilometers from the Ragay police station from Metro Manila to Tabaco City when it allegedly encroached into the opposite lane.
The bus collided with an oncoming white Foton Light Rescue Vehicle driven by Jeffrey, 35, a resident of Sipocot, Camarines Sur.
Five people onboard the rescue vehicle died on the spot.
Emergency responders rushed the victims to the hospital.
Authorities reported no injuries or fatalities among the passengers of the bus.
The bus driver fled and remains unidentified.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation.
