The Police Regional Office 4-A said Thursday that 1,225 individuals were apprehended during the intensified enforcement of the Safer Cities campaign in the Calabarzon region on April 8.
The Department of Interior and Local Government initiative aims to promote discipline and strengthen peace and order in the region and other parts of the country.
PRO 4-A Director Police Brig. Gen. Hansel Marantan said they, in close collaboration with local government units, enforced local ordinances aimed at maintaining peace, order, and public safety.
The operation, which targeted curfew violations, public drinking and smoking, improper public attire, and videoke use, was conducted from 10 p.m. to 12 midnight.
Marantan said 469 were minors who violated curfew hours, 159 were fined, and 30 were charged, while others were cited for videoke violations, improper attire, and prohibited public activities.
Appropriate actions were taken, including the filing of charges against violators and issuance of warnings, particularly for first-time offenders, in coordination with LGUs and parents or guardians, Marantan added.
6 oil pilferers nabbed in Laguna
SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna – Police arrested six alleged oil pilferers and recovered equipment worth P3.5 million in Barangay San Antonio 1 here on Wednesday morning, April 8.
Recovered from there were an oil tanker valued at P2 million, 54 square tanks worth P351,000, 8,800 liters of gasoline valued at P849,200, 900 liters of CME worth P18,000, five electric pumps valued at P150,000, approximately 20 feet of pressure hose worth P80,000, seven steel drums valued at P7,000, a steel funnel worth P1,200, and 21 empty 25-liter containers valued at P8,400.
Lawmen used alternative recording devices and a drone to apprehend the suspects in the act of dispensing, short-selling, hoarding, and adulterating petroleum products.
Two suspects were injured after jumping from the top of the tanker and taken to a hospital.
Pieces of evidence were properly marked and turned over for disposition and further investigation.
Suspects faces cases for violating Presidential Decree 1865 or the Oil-Pilferage Law.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing gasoline from a parked tricycle in Atimoman, Quezon on Wednesday.
The tricycle owner reported the incident caught on surveillance camera to the police who arrested the suspect in a pursuit operation.
The arrested suspect faces appropriate cases. A follow-up operation continues for his cohort.
Police reminded the people to secure their vehicles, particularly now that gasoline prices are high.
