A hero's burial will be held for Scout Ranger Capt. Dean Oyando, a native of Tabuk City, Kalinga who was killed in an encounter with New People’s Army rebels in Occidental Mindoro, on Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor).
The date of his burial was described by provincial officials as a fitting tribute to his courage, sacrifice, and dedicated service to the nation.
Gov. James S. Edduba has called on government officials and the public to visit the wake of the slain Army officer and comfort his bereaved family.
“It is fitting that his burial falls on Heroes’ Day on April 9. For those who have not yet gone, please take time to visit so that, even in the smallest way, we may help ease the pain of the family of our son,” Edduba said.
Tabuk City Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero condoled with Oyando’s family.
In a Facebook post, the mayor said the fallen officer would be remembered as “a courageous leader and a true servant of the people,” who stood firm in the face of danger and placed the safety of others above his own life.
“His death in the line of duty is an honorable and heroic sacrifice, a powerful testament to his bravery, loyalty, and unwavering love for his fellow countrymen,” the mayor said.
“No words can ever fully ease the pain of losing a son, a brother, and a loved one. The sorrow felt by his family is immeasurable, yet his life stands as a shining example of courage, sacrifice, and selfless love,” he added.
