House of Representatives members ridiculed Vice President Sara Duterte's camp on Wednesday, April 8 following its latest attempt to have the Supreme Court (SC) stop the chamber’s impeachment proceedings against the lady official.
One of them, Senior Deputy Minority Leader Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima, wondered out loud if the Duterte camp gave a different meaning to the acronym "SC".
"Akala siguro nila yung SC ay 'Sara's Court' na pwede nila laging takbuhan para pagtakpan ang kaduwagan at pagtakas sa pananagutan (They probably think the SC is 'Sara’s Court', something they can always run to in order to cover up cowardice and evade accountability)," De Lima said in an X post.
In a 58-page Petition for Certiorari and Prohibition filed before the SC, Duterte’s lawyers sought to declare as void ab initio the 2026 impeachment complaints against the respondent. They are also asking for the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the proceedings.
This mirrored the Duterte camp's move during the Vice President’s 2025 impeachment case, which the SC ended up striking down due to a technicality in its filing.

Deputy Minority Leader Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña also gave a tongue-in-cheek reaction to the Duterte camp's challenge to the impeachment proceedings being conducted by the House Committee on Justice.
"Ang Vice President tag-gipit, sa [SC] talaga kumakapit. Confirmed! Wala talaga siyang balak harapin itong kaso na kinahaharap niya ngayon dito sa impeachment sa House of Representatives," he said.
(The Vice President, truly pressed, clings to the [SC]. Confirmed! She clearly has no intention of facing the case now before her in the impeachment proceedings at the House of Representatives.)
"Alam natin na talagang desperado na sila, natatakot na lumabas ebidensya, natatakot na lumabas ang katutuhanan. Kasi alam ni VP Sara, paglabas ng ebidensya, wala na siyang takas," claimed Cendaña.
(We know they are desperate, afraid of the evidence coming out, afraid of the truth being revealed. Because Vice President Sara knows that once the evidence is exposed, there will be no escape.)

The Makabayan faction--part of the broader House minority bloc--also interpreted the SC petition as a sign of desperation.
ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio, Gabriela Party-list Rep. Sarah Elago, and Kabataan Party-list Rep. Renee Co specifically called it "a blatant, desperate move to evade accountability and derail the constitutional process".
"The impeachment proceedings have followed established rules and due process at every step. Instead of facing the allegations squarely and answering the issues raised, the Vice President is once again running to the [SC], grasping at straws in an attempt to scuttle proceedings that are clearly moving forward within the bounds of the Constitution and the House’s authority," they said.
The militant solons note that the impeachment process is a constitutional mechanism of accountability lodged in Congress. "Attempts to freeze the process midstream are attempts to short-circuit the people’s demand for truth and responsibility, and to convert technical maneuvering into a shield against scrutiny."
"Hindi dapat gawing takbuhan ang Korte Suprema para takasan ang pananagutan. Hindi dapat gawing panangga ang mga teknikalidad para ipagkait ang hustisya at katotohanan. Kailangang magpatuloy ang pagdinig at ilantad ang ebidensya," they said.
(The SC should not be used as an escape route to avoid accountability. Technicalities should not be used as a shield to deny justice and truth. The hearings must continue, and the evidence must be revealed.)
"We call on the [SC] to exercise prudence and avoid being used to obstruct a process that the Constitution clearly places within the House’s jurisdiction at this stage," the Makabayan further said.
The justice committee is currently holding hearings for the determination of probable cause in the two remaining impeachment raps against Duterte.
