The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday, April 8, said the Philippine government has expressed “cautious optimism” over the planned peace talks between the United States and Iran, which will be facilitated by Pakistan.
In a statement, the DFA said it is hopeful that the negotiations will lead to a permanent end to the conflict and pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
“We hope that the negotiations will lead to the permanent end of the conflict and lasting peace,” the DFA said.
Impact of the conflict
The DFA highlighted that the ongoing tensions between the two nations have resulted in significant loss of life and widespread damage to civilian and economic infrastructure. It also underscored the broader consequences of the conflict, particularly its disruptive effects on the global economy.
“The conflict has caused significant loss of lives and damage to civilian and economic infrastructure, as well as disruptions in the global economy,” the DFA said.
The instability involving major geopolitical players such as the United States and Iran has affected oil markets, trade flows, and regional security dynamics, with ripple effects felt worldwide, including in Southeast Asia.
Call for diplomacy
Reaffirming its long-standing foreign policy stance, the Philippines urged all parties involved to resolve their differences through peaceful and constructive dialogue.
“The Philippines continues to hope that all parties will resolve their differences through earnest dialogue and diplomacy,” the DFA added.
The DFA’s statement reflects the Philippines’ consistent support for a rules-based international order and diplomatic conflict resolution, particularly amid rising global tensions.
