Quezon City Police District (QCPD) seal
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said a residential compound in Barangay Sacred Heart was found storing large amounts of diesel without the required permits.
QCPD Station 10 said a company representative admitted they lacked permits to store thousands of liters of diesel in a residential area.
Authorities said an oil tanker carrying about 20,000 liters of diesel was caught unloading fuel into a storage tank inside the property.
The representative claimed the fuel was for personal consumption, including metal fabrication work and powering generators. However, police said such storage is not allowed in residential areas.
The tanker was seen parked in front of a house on Scout Castor Street on Saturday evening.
The Department of Energy (DOE) conducted a surprise inspection, but no one came out to face the officials.
The DOE warned that storing diesel in residential areas is unsafe and may be illegal due to fire and explosion risks. It added that petroleum products should only be stored in proper facilities, as hoarding in residential areas may also lead to supply issues.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) impounded the tanker pending the presentation of the required permits.
Barangay officials said they were unaware of the activity and believed the property was vacant.
Residents raised concerns over possible fire hazards and plan to submit a complaint to the local government.
Authorities are preparing charges and may file cases against those involved.
