A former policewoman was shot dead inside her home in Valenzuela City in what authorities said was a planned attack, allegedly orchestrated by a man who was later arrested.
Valenzuela police said several suspects were later identified through follow-up operations and CCTV backtracking.
The 38-year-old victim, a former member of the Philippine National Police and resident of Barangay Malinta, was shot in the head at around 12:10 a.m. on Apr. 4, according to the Valenzuela City Police Station (VCPS).
Investigators said the victim had earlier instructed witnesses to fetch two unidentified men from a nearby basketball court and bring them to her residence.
While inside the house, the victim was talking on a mobile phone when one of the suspects shot her in the right temple, killing her on the spot, said Police Capt. Robin Santos, chief of the Station Investigation and Detection Management Section.
CCTV footage showed the suspects arriving aboard a silver Toyota Vios and being met by two individuals later identified as alias “Tio” and alias “Rab,” who allegedly brought the gunmen to the victim’s residence.
Further investigation pointed to alias “Men” as the alleged mastermind, who was in communication with the gunmen and coordinated the attack, police said.
Alias Tio was arrested in a follow-up operation, while Men was later apprehended in Barangay Malinta; Rab has since turned into a witness.
Murder charges will be filed against Tio, Men, alias “Romy,” and two unidentified suspects, while Men will also face charges for violations of Republic Act 10591 and Section 11 of Republic Act 9165.
Two gunmen remain at large as police continue to track them, authorities said.
Police said investigators are still establishing the motive behind the killing.
