CEBU CITY – While no major infrastructure damage was reported, six individuals were injured in the magnitude-5.1 earthquake that struck Bogo City in northern Cebu on Monday, April 6.
The Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said the injured were all from Bogo who were struck by shattered glass. The injured received necessary treatment, the PDRRMO said.
Bogo Mayor Mayel Martinez confirmed that no major infrastructure damage was recorded in the city which is still recovering from the magnitude-6.9 earthquake last Sept. 30.
“Based on the initial assessment and reports submitted by our concerned offices, there have been no reported damages to infrastructure within the city,” Martinez said in a statement.
According to the PDRRMO, 15 aftershocks were recorded as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7. The earthquake struck at 3:22 p.m. and had a depth of 11 kilometers.
No evacuations were reported, the PDRRMO said.
The PDRRMO said that in nearby San Remigio town, several structures previously damaged by the magnitude-6.9 earthquake sustained additional damage.
Minor structural issues including small cracks in the municipal hall of Sogod and minor damage to the third-floor annex of Juan B. Dosado Memorial Hospital were noted.
Santa Fe, Bantayan, Medellin, Tabuelan, Borbon, Tabogon, Danao City, San Francisco, Tudela, Sogod, and Consolacion reported no major damage or casualties.
The PDRRMO said it is monitoring northern Cebu, with teams working round-the-clock at the provincial command center.
Rapid health assessment teams have been deployed to Medellin, Bogo City, Tabogon, San Remigio, and nearby district hospitals to assess needs and provide assistance.
Police Col. Abubakar Mangelen Jr., chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), ordered station commanders to take necessary steps following the earthquake.
Police Major Sam Dacullo, information officer of CPPO, said they are coordinating with the PDRRMO to further assess the damage caused by the quake.
Dacullo said the Bogo City Police Station sustained additional damage from the earthquake.
“We are closely coordinating with the provincial government as well as with the PDRRMO. We have personnel at the PDRRMO for a province-wide assessment,” said Dacullo.
