Marikina LGU to provide free rides using solar-powered e-jeeps
Amid soaring fuel prices, the Marikina local government is set to offer more than just "Libreng sakay" (Free rides) to commuters, as it will use eco-friendly, solar-powered e-jeeps to make daily travel easier for residents.
“Para makatulong sa araw-araw na biyahe ng ating mga kababayan, maglulunsad tayo ng libreng sakay gamit ang mga solar-powered at rechargeable E-jeeps (To help residents with their daily travel, we will launch free rides using solar-powered, rechargeable e-jeeps),” Mayor Maan Teodoro said on Monday, April 6.
Teodoro said that the city government will deploy six e-jeeps to make transport services more convenient and accessible to Marikeños.
To ensure that more commuters can benefit, she said each vehicle can accommodate up to 24 passengers and will be dispatched to key strategic locations across the city.
“Ang mga E-jeeps natin ay magiging augmentation o karagdagang options sa mga mananakay. Ito ay gagawin nating point-to-point service (Our e-jeeps will serve as augmentation, or an additional option, for commuters. We will operate them as a point-to-point service),” Teodoro said.
The mayor stated that the “libreng sakay” is not only a practical measure to help residents but is also a sustainable, eco-friendly effort through the use of solar-powered and rechargeable vehicles.
The mayor said the schedule and routes of the “libreng sakay” will be posted on the official Facebook page of the Marikina Public Information Office (PIO).
“Rest assured, the city government is committed to providing services to help Marikina residents throughout this crisis,” she added.
