After a brief Holy Week pause, Manila’s Libreng Sakay program resumed operations on Monday, April 6, assisting 194,325 commuters with 1,052 active jeepneys ferrying passengers along key city routes.
The program, which halted from April 2, Maundy Thursday through April 5, Easter Sunday, restarted today to accommodate the city’s returning commuters.
Major routes covered include España Boulevard, Divisoria, Quiapo, and Blumentritt, providing free rides to students, workers, and senior citizens.
Participating jeepney drivers receive guaranteed daily payouts ranging from P3,000 to P3,500, allowing them to provide free rides without compromising income.
Traffic and safety personnel from Manila Department of Risk Reduction Management Office and Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau coordinated with drivers to prevent congestion, monitor routes, and assist commuters as needed.
City authorities reminded the public that the program will continue until April 12, covering the post-Holy Week period.
