Cash aid for transport sector moves beyond Metro Manila: Who's included and when payouts begin
Government cash assistance for public transport workers is set to reach areas outside the National Capital Region as distribution moves into its next phase.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said it will begin distributing cash relief assistance to more than 328,000 tricycle drivers in cities and municipalities outside Metro Manila starting Wednesday, April 8.
The latest phase follows a series of cash aid distributions for the transport sector in Metro Manila that began on March 17.
DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Irene Dumlao said beneficiary lists submitted by local government units will undergo verification to ensure accuracy and prevent duplication.
“Yung isinumite po ng mga LGUs sa aming mga Field Offices na listahan ay isinasailalim sa deduplication process upang hindi po magdoble-doble ang mga naka-listang pangalan, walang entries na kulang, at para masiguro na tama ang mga detalye sa listahan. Ito po ang gagamitin ng DSWD sa pamamahagi ng cash assistance ngayong linggo (The lists submitted by local government units to our Field Offices are subjected to a deduplication process to ensure there are no duplicate names, no missing entries, and to make sure the details are correct. This will be used by DSWD in the distribution of cash assistance this week),” Dumlao said.
She added that beneficiary lists for tricycle drivers were provided by local government units, which issue permits to operators.
Under the cash relief assistance (CRA), each tricycle driver-beneficiary will receive ₱5,000 to help cushion the impact of rising fuel prices driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
For scheduling and venues, Dumlao said DSWD Field Offices are still coordinating with concerned LGUs to finalize payout locations, ensuring accessibility and safety for beneficiaries.
“Para po sa oras at lugar ng cash relief assistance payout, mangyari lamang po na na antabayanan ang anunsyo sa official DSWD Facebook page at pages ng aming mga Field Offices. Ilalathala po naming ang lahat ng payout areas, pati na rin ang iba pang mahahalagang impormasyon bago magsimula ang payout activity (For the schedule and location of the cash relief assistance payout, please await announcements on the official DSWD Facebook page and our Field Offices’ pages. We will publish all payout areas and other important information before the payout activity begins),” she said.
DSWD advised beneficiaries to monitor its official communication platforms, including its website and official Facebook page for updates.
The CRA is being implemented under the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, which serves as a social safety net or stop-gap mechanism for individuals and families facing unexpected crises.
DSWD said the projected number of beneficiaries may still increase once all reports from its field offices are consolidated.
