Police and emergency teams attended to 296 minor incidents during Semana Santa 2026 in Quiapo, Manila, most of which involved dizziness, minor injuries, and fatigue caused by the heavy crowds.
The prompt response helped maintain safety and order as hundreds of thousands of devotees joined the religious activities, especially the Good Friday procession of the Jesus Nazarene on April 3.
Police also monitored activity in the bustling Quiapo markets, where heavy foot traffic and crowded stalls added to the challenges of managing the large crowds.
According to Quiapo Church, most incidents were routine cases caused by the large number of people navigating the busy streets of Quiapo during Holy Week.
Medical personnel from the Department of Health (DOH), along with police, rescue units, and emergency teams, were stationed across key areas, including Quezon Boulevard and Carlos Palanca Street to provide immediate assistance.
Under the supervision of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Director Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, police intensified patrols and coordinated with allied units to maintain public safety, manage crowd flow, and provide support to those in need.
“The rapid response of our teams helped ensure that the Semana Santa activities proceeded smoothly and safely,” NCRPO said.
