President Marcos declared April 10 to 16 of every year as Economy, Planning, and Development Week.
Marcos made the declaration through Proclamation No. 1205, which also proclaimed the 10th of April of every year as the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Day.
Proclamation No. 1205 also repealed Proclamation No. 666 (1990), which declared Dec. 17 to 23 of every year as Socio-Economic Planning and Development Week, and the 23rd of the month as the NEDA Day.
In making the declaration, the President noted the need to "further promote public awareness and appreciation of the importance of socioeconomic planning and development in advancing inclusive and sustainable national development."
Under the proclamation dated March 30, DEPDev will lead the observance of the Economy, Planning, and Development Week and DEPDev Day. It was directed to identify the programs, projects, and activities for the yearly celebration.
All other agencies and instrumentalities of the national government, including government-owned or -controlled corporations and state universities and colleges, were directed to actively participate in the week-long celebration and render the necessary support to the DEPDev for the effective implementation of the proclamation.
All local government units, non-government organizations, and the private sector were also encouraged to participate and offer help during the celebration.
It can be recalled that Republic Act No. 12145 or the "Economy, Planning, and Development Act" reorganized the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) into DEPDev to strengthen its mandate, institutional independence, and capacity as the primary policy, planning, coordinating, and monitoring arm of the Executive Branch on matters concerning the national economy.
