For many Filipino fashion designers, one of their ultimate goals is to showcase their work in one of the world’s major fashion capitals. It’s not just about putting their name on the map, but about presenting what Filipino design talent is all about.

That was the mission of Spotlight Couronne Internationale (SCI), a Canada-based fashion production company: to spotlight the creative talents of Filipinos—not just in clothing design, but also across other facets of the industry. Last February, SCI PH, a brand under the SCI umbrella, brought its community to Milan during the height of the city’s fashion festivities. Led by Limuel Hayag Vilela and creative director Alvin Masangkay Francia, the brand presented its collection, dubbed “La Mia Promessa,” offering its take on luxury as something more approachable, personal, and meaningful.
“The idea behind the collection is that fashion can represent a promise—a promise to believe in yourself, to rise above doubts, and to embrace your true identity,” Limuel says. “Every piece tells a story of courage, individuality, and the power of self-expression.”
Unveiled at The Westin Palace Milan, the collection featured sophisticated eveningwear in monochromatic hues and luxe materials, adorned with intricate floral appliqués and beadwork—signature design elements of SCI PH. These pieces were presented by SCI models—children, teens, young adults, and professionals—who underwent training and personality development sessions under SCI.
“Seeing them shine on an international stage reminded us that fashion can be more than just design; it can be a platform for empowerment, diversity, and representation,” Alvin muses.
This is not the first time SCI PH has showcased on the international stage. In the past, SCI has held shows in Calgary, Manila, Winnipeg, Edmonton, New York, and Paris through its International Fashion and Arts Weekend (IFAW). During its 10th anniversary celebration last November, the company marked the milestone with Fashion Gala Canada 2025. Held at the historic Fairmont Palliser, the event gathered tastemakers from across Canada to celebrate a decade of storytelling, empowerment, and global inclusivity.
“Our mission in building Spotlight Couronne Internationale Inc. was to create a platform where creativity, identity, and opportunity could truly meet,” Limuel says. “As immigrants in Canada, both Alvin and I experienced moments of feeling different—moments when confidence was challenged and opportunities didn’t always come easily. Those experiences shaped our purpose.”
As SCI marks its 10th year in the fashion industry, Limuel and Alvin know there is still more work to be done. In its next chapter, the brand aims to bring what it started in Calgary to the Philippines with the opening of The House of SCI PH in Lucena City. It will serve as a creative hub for fashion, mentorship, and professional development—a space where aspiring creatives can learn, collaborate, and build confidence.
Globally, they plan to continue bringing SCI PH to international stages to strengthen its global presence. Their vision is to grow it into a diverse luxury fashion brand that celebrates creativity and authenticity.
“At the end of the day, SCI was never just about fashion. It’s about empowering people through creativity and reminding them of the values that guide us every day,” Alvin concludes.
