Senator Erwin Tulfo on Sunday, April 5 lauded Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Sang Hwa for swiftly acting on the reported “no Filipino policy” being implemented by several Korean KTV and restaurants in Angeles City and Clark in Pampanga.
Earlier, Tulfo demanded an investigation against “Korean-only” establishments operating in the Philippines, warning they could face closure if the claims are proven true.
These “Korean-only” establishments allegedly include hotels, restaurants, certain bars and other establishments in the country.
Tulfo thanked Lee for immediately conducting an investigation over these complaints.
“I thank Ambassador Lee for his speedy action in immediately conducting an investigation on the complaints against Korean-owned establishments in the Philippines,” the senator said.
“Complaints have reached our office regarding the policy of several Korean KTV and restaurants in Central Luzon prohibiting Filipinos from entering their establishment,” he noted.
The South Korea’s envoy to the Philippines sent a report to Tulfo attached with the actions taken by the Central Luzon Korean Association so that discrimination will not be repeated.
“Among the steps taken by the reported Korean-owned KTV and Restaurants are the posting of apology on their doors regarding the policy and a promise they will not do it anymore,” he said.
Tulfo also lauded the Korean Community Association for promising to conduct regular monitoring and inspection of the said establishments, especially to check their compliance to Philippine laws.
At the same time, Lee also assured the senator of continuous collaboration on the matter vowing to immediately act on any issue he would report to the embassy.
