Eldrew Yulo qualifies for horizontal bar finals at Cairo World Cup Series

Karl Eldrew Yulo kept his momentum going at the Cairo leg of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series after punching a ticket to the horizontal bar finals on Sunday, April 5 (Philippine time).
The 18-year-old Filipino standout scored third-best among the qualifiers with 13.466, highlighted by an 8.566 execution mark on a routine carrying a 4.900 degree of difficulty.
China’s Li Hongyan led the field heading into the finals with 14.333 -- the only gymnast to break the 14-point barrier -- delivering the most difficult routine at 5.800 and executing it cleanly for a solid 8.633 score.
Chile’s Luciano Letelier trailed behind Li with 13.533.
Other qualifiers include Cyprus’ Marios Georgiou (13.366), Colombia’s Camilo Vera (13.366), Daniel Marinov (13.000), Kazakhstan’s Ilyas Azizov (12.800) and Greece’s Nikolaos Iliopoulos (12.666).
Yulo’s teammate Juancho Miguel Besana, meanwhile, was listed as a second reserve with his 12.233 score along with first reserve Altan Dogan of Turkey, who posted 12.600.
The finals are scheduled on Monday, April 6.
Apart from the horizontal bar, Yulo is also competing for the medal in the floor exercise after finishing fifth among the qualifiers.
