PATNANUNGAN, Quezon – Police are probing the source of three kilos of suspected shabu valued at about P22.3 million recovered in Barangay Busdak here on Friday, April 3.
Police Col. Romulo Albacea, Quezon police director, said the contraband weighing 3.2 kilograms in three tape-sealed plastic bags are being examined by the Quezon Provincial Forensic Unit.
These were discovered by children and turned over by a 58-year-old fisherman to the police.
“Personnel of Patnanungan MPS received a telephone call regarding the discovery of three plastic bags weighing more or less 3,280 grams of suspected shabu,” a report reaching Camp Crame said.
Investigators are determining if they were abandoned at sea or meant for distribution within or beyond the province.
Patnanungan, an island municipality, has long relied on small-scale fishing. Its waters face the Philippine Sea, making it vulnerable to drifting cargo and, at times, suspected contraband washed ashore, according to the PNP. (With a report from Martin Sadongdong)
