Devotees fill Tanay churches, pilgrim sites on Good Friday

Churches and other religious sites were filled with devotees as Good Friday became a day of prayer and reflection in Tanay, Rizal.
Residents crowd the streets of Tanay as they joined the Good Friday procession, observing age-old traditions of Filipinos during the Holy Week.
Antique religious images owned by families were showcased in the late afternoon procession, which began at the San Ildefonso Parish Church towards the streets in the town proper.
The image of the dead Christ drew the largest following, in a tradition observed by the church as the Holy Burial or "Santo Entierro".

Participants caried lighted candles, while others sang along as the brass band played sacred music and the religious images passed by the houses in the town.
Earlier in the morning, pilgrims visited the La Capilla dela Boda Diocesan de Amor Divino, a new chapel located at the Epic Mountain Estate in Barangay Sampaloc in Tanay.
The site features a giant statue of the Nuestra Señora dela Paz Y Buenviaje (Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage) and the chapel -- the newest in the Diocese of Antipolo -- which was blessed on Jan. 28 by Bishop Ruperto Cruz Santos of Antipolo.
