ILOILO CITY – Police arrested two lady activists on Maundy Thursday, April 2, in Pavia town, Iloilo province.
The Police Regional Office-6 and Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) identified them as Dhaday and Luing.
Rights group Panay Alliance Karapatan identified them as in-laws Josephine Parra Porquia and Maria Luisa Tagamolila Guillen.
The operation targeted Porquia, a suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebel who had a warrant of arrest for rebellion issued by a court in Mambusao town, Capiz province.
Police recovered materials for an improvised explosive device (IED) from Porquia.
Guillen was arrested for allegedly interfering in the arrest of Porquia.
The 64-year-old Porquia is the wife of Jory Porquia, a member of Bayan Muna who was killed on April 30, 2020.
The 62-year-old Guillen was associated with Gabriela Women’s party and is the mother of human rights lawyer Angelo Karlo Guillen, who survived a stabbing incident in March 2021. Porquia’s daughter is married to Angelo.
PRO-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan and Police Col. Bayani Razalan of the IPPO lauded operating teams for arresting Porquia and Guillen.
