Hot, humid weather persists due to easterlies — PAGASA
Warm and humid conditions will continue to prevail across most of the country in the next few days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, April 2.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said the easterlies—or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean—remain the dominant weather system affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
She noted that the likelihood of widespread rainfall remains low, although localized rain showers may still occur.
In extreme Northern Luzon, the northeasterly wind flow is temporarily affecting Batanes, resulting in isolated light rains in the area.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening.
Meanwhile, de la Cruz-Galicia said no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone is expected to develop within the Philippine area of responsibility over the next two to three days.
Despite the generally fair weather, she warned of elevated heat levels, especially in urban areas.
The heat index in Metro Manila is forecast to range from 34 to 36 degrees Celsius, falling under the “extreme caution” category.
Under this level, heat indices ranging from 33 to 41 degrees Celsius increase the likelihood of heat cramps and heat exhaustion, while prolonged exposure or physical activity could lead to heat stroke, she said.
