Nueva Vizcaya Gov. Jose Gambito announced that the five-day 2026 Grand Ammungan Festival celebrating the founding anniversary of the province in May will be reduced to just one day due to the oil crisis.
Gambito said the provincial government is working to conserve funds and transfer the savings to financial assistance for sectors severely affected by the crisis.
Festival Director General Eunice Gambol said the decision reflects a broader austerity program aimed at ensuring that public resources are used prudently while addressing the immediate needs of Novo Vizcayanos who are struggling with the rising prices of basic commodities and transportation.
The festival scheduled from May 20 to 25 was set to feature events that attract large crowds such as the Travel and Tourism Expo, Saniata ti Nueva Vizcaya pageant, street-dancing competition, and a grand concert.
"This will be a modest but meaningful celebration to commemorate the history and spirit of our great province," Gambol said.
Organizers have yet to announce the new lineup of activities but they assured people that the spirit of the festival will remain at the forefront.
Gambol called on people to remain strong and united as the province faces challenges from global economic pressures.
