Wolfgang frontman Basti Artadi has responded to heated online debate about him calling out a fan during a recent Davao concert.
The incident, which circulated widely on social media, led some netizens to accuse him of taking sides politically, with some claiming he is pro-Marcos.
But Artadi says the moment has been misunderstood and taken out of context.
In a video posted on his Facebook page, Artadi explained the outburst happened while the band was paying tribute to their late bassist, Mon Legaspi, who passed away in 2022. He stressed that the moment was meant to be solemn and respectful.
“At that moment, I was paying tribute to a very important person in our band who’s no longer with us,” he said. “A couple of people chose that moment to try and separate people, and that was bastos. Simple as that. It was bastos.”
The vocalist emphasized that the concert was intended to bring people together, not as platform for political division. He noted that the fan’s repeated shouting of profanity referring to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. disrupted the atmosphere and disrespected the tribute.
“Everybody who is now spreading this and making it something it isn’t… you’re just separating us some more,” Artadi added, stressing that the video’s circulation has fueled unnecessary hostility.
Artadi went on to maintain his decision to call for the removal of the disruptive audience member was not politically motivated, but rather an effort to maintain respect and order during a meaningful moment.
