Wilbert Tolentino's inspiring college comeback at 50

The saying “It’s never too late to learn” perfectly describes the inspiring journey of influencer, businessman, and former talent manager Wilbert Tolentino.
At 50, Tolentino has finally earned his Bachelor of Science in Office Administration degree from Philippine Christian University (PCU), graduating with the Class of 2026.

Last year, the queenmaker added another feather to his cap after acquiring Nazareth Institute of Alfonso, Inc., an educational institution in Alfonso, Cavite.
This move didn’t surprise his close friends and followers, who have long known Wilbert’s strong advocacy for education.
“I have always believed that education is the most powerful foundation for transforming communities and building a better future for the next generation,” Wilbert said.
“Nazareth Institute is not just an institution—it’s a legacy of learning that has shaped lives for two decades. By acquiring the school, I see a meaningful opportunity to protect that legacy while elevating it to meet the demands of the modern world.”
For many, it may raise the question: Why did it take him this long to finish college? Tolentino openly shared that life circumstances forced him to stop studying at a very young age. “The truth is, I come from a broken family. At 14 years old, I had to stop studying and start working just to survive,” he recalled.
His early jobs included working as a printing press helper and a cleaner, roles that exposed him to the harsh realities of life at a young age. “Life was never easy, but I refused to give up."
After those early jobs, Tolentino worked as an all-around employee in a small community grocery store. Despite his limited opportunities, he remained determined to improve his life.

At 18, armed with courage and determination, he took a major risk and started his own business.
“Being a young entrepreneur without a college degree and proper education was extremely challenging,” Tolentino admitted.
He added, “I had limited funds and struggled with operational expenses like payroll and rent. At the same time, I had to provide for my months-old daughter. But those heavy responsibilities did not break me — they fueled me to work even harder."
From the very beginning, Tolentino promised to take care of the people who believed in him — his employees.
“Through the years, they became more than my staff. They became my business partners, my travel companions, and my family.
“For almost three decades now, we have stood side by side. I never discriminated against them. What I eat, they also eat. What I earn, we celebrate together.”
“Like me, many of them did not have diplomas. We did not have prestigious titles. What we had was diligence, loyalty, and an unshakable commitment to achieve financial stability and build better lives," he also said.
Today, every blessing Tolentino enjoys is the result of years of hard work, perseverance, and faith. Despite his accomplishments, one dream remained on his personal bucket list — to finish college and earn a diploma.
“Now that I have reached my golden years, I have checked almost everything off my bucket list,” he shared. "But one dream remained — to earn my diploma and wear my toga. And now, I’ve finally done it. I firmly believe that age is never a hindrance to learning. It is never too late to finish what you started."
For Tolentino, earning a college degree is more than just a personal milestone. As a single parent to an eight-year-old son with special needs, the achievement carries deeper meaning.
“It means showing my son that perseverance, education, and determination can open doors — no matter what obstacles you face.”
Tolentino shared a message for the younger generation. “To the Gen Z and Gen Alpha, I hope my story reminds you that success is not about how fast you finish, but how determined you are to keep going. Be diligent. Stay committed. Chase your dreams relentlessly.”
He expressed deep gratitude to the individuals who encouraged and supported him throughout his educational journey.
“To my Mommy, teacher, and mentor, Miss Lilibet Amatong, thank you for believing in me and inspiring me to continue pursuing my dreams."
He also thanked his instructors: Teacher Melody Llona, his Home Study Instructor, and Professor Bong Escobedo, his Online Class Instructor at the PCU Escobedo Extension, for their patience, guidance, and dedication.
He also expressed heartfelt appreciation to Mommy Susan Rogacion of the Nazareth Institute of Alfonso for her love, support, and encouragement throughout his journey.
Tolentino dedicated his achievement to his 86-year-old mother and to his late father. “This achievement is dedicated to both of you. Everything I have accomplished is because of the values, strength, and love you instilled in me."
To his son, Willard King, he shared a heartfelt message: “Being a single father has not always been easy. There were many challenges and sacrifices, especially in balancing time and responsibilities. But I want you to know that with dedication, hard work, and perseverance, everything is possible.”
“With all my love, gratitude, and prayers — thank you for being part of my journey,” he said. He also congratulated his fellow graduates, including Geneva Cruz, Rico Almonicar, and Sachzna Laparan, as well as the faculty and administration of Philippine Christian University. “Together, we dreamed big and made our mark on the world,” Tolentino said.
