CAMP MARCELO A. ADDURU, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Police Regional Office-2 has launched the summer safety campaign dubbed Ligtas SumVac 2026 to ensure public safety in the Cagayan Valley region from March 29 to May 31.
PRO-2 Director Police Brig. Gen. Antonio P. Marallag Jr. said the annual security campaign coincides with major national observances and religious events such as Philippine Veterans Week, Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), Holy Week, Labor Day, and Flores de Mayo, periods expected to draw a significant influx of travelers across the Cagayan Valley.
PRO-2 has implemented strategic deployment of personnel and resources in major highways, transportation hubs, tourist destinations, and places of worship, to ensure swift response and deter criminal activity.
The Regional Highway Patrol Unit positioned road safety marshals on primary thoroughfares and conducted inspections in bus terminals.
Provincial and city police offices have been directed to strengthen mobile patrols and increase presence in crowded and high-risk areas.
Authorities established Motorist Assistance Centers (MACs) on major routes, as well as Police Assistance Desks (PADs) in strategic locations such as churches, airports, seaports, and bus terminals.
In response to rising digital threats, the PRO-2 Anti-Cybercrime Unit ramped up cyber patrol operations to monitor and prevent online scams, particularly fraudulent travel and accommodation schemes targeting vacationers.
Marallag assured residents and visitors that the police force remains on full alert.
“We will not neglect our duties. The Police Regional Office 2 is on full alert to ensure that every people, every celebration, and every home in Cagayan Valley remains safe,” Marallag said.
He added that the initiative goes beyond routine operations. “Ligtas SumVac 2026 is not just an operation, but a commitment to make every Filipino feel that they can rely on the police wherever they go,” he added.
PRO-2 reminded the public to remain vigilant, safeguard personal belongings, and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
