The Philippine men’s football team fell short of reaching the 2027 AFC Asian Cup after a 1-1 draw against host Tajikistan in the qualifiers at the Hisor Central Stadium Tuesday night, March 31.
The Nationals seized the edge early as Raphael Obermair delivered the first goal at the 19th minute of the first half. However, the match was quickly tied after Sheriddin Boboev found the back of the net at the 40-minute mark.
This was the second time the match between the Filipino and Tajik booters ended in a draw, but this time the result was in favor of the latter after it topped Group A which awarded them the coveted spot.
Prior to the match, the Carles Cuadra-mentored squad and Tajikistan were tied in their bracket with 13 points apiece with four wins and one draw.
The Philippines, on the other hand, will miss the continental meet again after its last appearance in the 2019 edition, where former skipper Stephan Schrock registered a historic goal for the Azkals.
