PDEA: At least 13 PUV drivers test positive in nationwide random drug test for Holy Week exodus

A number of public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers were tested positive for illegal drug use during the random screening in parts of the country amid the Holy Week exodus of travelers, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confirmed on Wednesday, April 1.
During the first day of “Oplan Harabas’’ in Western Visayas, PDEA said that 822 drivers underwent random drug testing with six yielding positive results.
On April 1, PDEA said two more tested positive for the use of shabu out of the 607 drivers tested .
In Bicol the Region, the agency said 172 PUV drivers and conductors underwent surprise drug testing with a bus driver and two tricycle drivers initially tested positive for shabu.
Likewise in Eastern Visayas, the PDEA said 152 drivers and conductors were tested with three drivers tested positive for illegal drugs.
All of those who tested positive will undergo confirmatory test and PDEA said they were given initial counseling and referred to local health offices for further intervention, including possible treatment and rehabilitation.
Further, anti-narcotics authorities conducted large-scale drug testing covering 1,286 drivers across the cities and towns of Zamboanga Peninsula with 19 individuals also tested positive.
DEA said that those who will be confirmed positive will be referred to local anti-drug abuse councils for intervention and monitoring.
“The Land Transportation Office (LTO) may impose administrative sanctions such as suspension or revocation of driver’s licenses,’’ PDEA continued.
