LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – A 30-year-old man was arrested in a police checkpoint on the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Tabugon, Santa Elena, Camarines Sur on Tuesday, March 31, for allegedly driving a carnapped vehicle.
Police Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-5, identified the suspect as France.
Authorities flagged down a gray Toyota Vios for traffic violations. The suspect was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was unable to present a valid driver’s license.
Further verification of the vehicle’s documents revealed that it was reported stolen in Calamba City, Laguna on Monday, March 30.
The car was registered under Clariant Philippines Corp. and was reported missing by the victim Nilo, an employee.
The suspect is under further investigation and faces appropriate charges.
Police records showed that the suspect has no prior criminal record.
Authorities reminded the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
He faces charges for violating Republic Act No. 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016.
