BACOLOD CITY – The city government of La Carlota in Negros Occidental implemented a provisional tricycle fare increase across the city starting Wednesday, April 1.
Ordinance No. 2026-002, enacted in response to the ongoing oil crisis tied to the Middle East tensions affecting the transport sector, said adjusting fare rates has become necessary to ensure they remain fair and reasonable for operators, drivers, and commuters alike.
As of March 30, gasoline prices in the city ranged from P93 to P99.80, prompting the need for fare adjustments.
Under the new scheme, short trips within the Poblacion area—covering Barangays I, II, and III—are now set at P15 for regular passengers and P10 for those eligible for discounts.
For longer routes, the updated are: Barangay Yubo at P60 (regular), P48 (discounted), Barangay Ara-al at P55 (regular), P45 (discounted), and Barangay San Miguel at P45 (regular), and P35 (discounted).
Discounted rates apply to senior citizens, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and students.
The local government required tricycle operators to prominently display the approved fare matrix on the front windshield for passenger awareness and guidance.
Section 3 of the ordinance provides flexibility for future fare adjustments, allowing the city to increase or decrease rates depending on fuel price movements, subject to proper legislative procedures.
Violators of the ordinance will be penalized in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
Passengers were advised to check the official fare matrix before paying.
