ILOILO CITY – The municipality of Ajuy in northern Iloilo province declared a state of calamity due to the energy crisis caused by the Middle East War.
The Sangguniang Bayan approved Resolution No. 2026-088 issued by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).
“This declaration follows the recommendation of MDRRMC and the confirmed impact on essential services including transportation and livelihoods,” said Mayor Loida Espinosa in a statement.
The mayor said that three barangays have earlier declared states of calamity – Nasidman, Punta Buri, and Tagubanhan – due to the negative impact of the crisis.
The quick response fund will be utilized and the local government unit urged austerity measures to help conserve energy and fuel, among them limiting use of electricity to essential needs, avoiding unnecessary travel, and practicing carpooling.
“Your cooperation is very important as we work together to manage this crisis. Let us all do our part to support the community during this challenging time,” the mayor said.
Ajuy is the first LGU in Iloilo to declare a state of calamity due to the energy emergency.
