Boracay has always had a way of calling you back; but this time, it feels different.
There is a renewed energy in the island, a quiet confidence that signals not just recovery, but evolution. And at the center of this shift is Boracay Newcoast, where my recent stay at Chancellor Hotel Boracay offered a glimpse into what this next chapter looks like.
A short flight from Manila and a seamless, almost effortless transfer later, I found myself easing into the rhythm of island living once more. What struck me immediately wasn’t just the familiarity of Boracay’s beauty, but the diversity of its visitors. Foreign tourists filled the flights, while local travelers arrived in groups as families, friends, and multi-generational gatherings. For early February, it was an encouraging sight.
Set within the expansive 150-hectare Boracay Newcoast, Chancellor Hotel Boracay represents a more intentional way of experiencing the island. Developed by Global-Estate Resorts Inc. (GERI), a subsidiary of Megaworld Corporation, the township itself is designed as a fully integrated destination, where residential, commercial, hospitality, and lifestyle components coexist seamlessly. It’s a vision of island living that goes beyond the usual beachfront narrative.
Chancellor, in particular, is positioned differently. While Savoy Hotel Boracay leans toward the energetic traveler and Belmont Hotel Boracay caters to a more subdued, extended-stay market, Chancellor is unmistakably family-oriented. It’s a thoughtful pivot; one that recognizes how travel has evolved, especially in a post-pandemic world where connection and shared experiences have become more valuable than ever.

“We have been seeing a more diverse market for Boracay Newcoast, which is why we are diversifying our hotel offerings to curate unique experiences for every kind of traveler,” shares Maia Israel, area general manager.
She adds, “Whereas our first two hotels, Savoy and Belmont, target younger, more dynamic guests and business travelers, respectively, we are now opening Chancellor Hotel Boracay as a premier destination that prioritizes family connection and ensures that the fun of Boracay remains accessible, inclusive, and unforgettable for families.”
The Chancellor experience
The hotel’s scale is impressive, with over 500 suites ranging from compact twin and queen configurations to expansive executive and presidential suites. But what makes it stand out isn’t just size—it’s intent. The introduction of themed kids’ rooms, a first in Boracay, signals a shift toward immersive, experience-driven hospitality. This isn’t just about where you sleep; it’s about how spaces can shape memory-making, especially for families traveling together.
“We are continuing our vision of making Boracay Newcoast into a world-class destination that resonates with every type of traveler,” Israel explains. “By integrating new and exciting concepts like our themed kids’ suites—a trend we have seen from the leading players in the best international markets—we are ensuring that Chancellor Hotel Boracay offers a level of immersive experience that is truly unprecedented on the island.”
My own stay revealed a property that balances leisure with quiet sophistication. Open courtyards invite natural light and frame views of the sea, mountains, and sky; a quiet reminder that even within a master-planned township, nature remains the main character. The amenity spaces are designed for both activity and pause: a pool with a wet lounge and jacuzzi, a fitness garden, and the Emerald Spa, where wellness becomes part of the itinerary rather than an afterthought.
Dining at Chancellor Café leaned into both familiarity and locality, offering a curated mix of international dishes alongside Filipino flavors. There’s a conscious effort here: one that aligns with the hotel’s broader sustainability direction, where mindful sourcing and reduced waste are part of everyday operations.

Sustainability and community
What makes Chancellor even more compelling is its underlying philosophy. Through its “Mindful Stays” and “MEGreen” programs, sustainability is not treated as a marketing afterthought but as an operational framework. From reducing plastic use in rooms to integrating local produce into its menus, the hotel aligns itself with a broader environmental responsibility.
“We’re trying to position Chancellor with mindful tourism habits in mind,” explains Maia. “In the interiors, we incorporate lush greenery, while our food offerings focus more on local produce. We also implement sustainability practices such as eliminating plastics in rooms, curating food to avoid waste, and introducing other eco-conscious initiatives.”
More importantly, these mindful habits extend beyond the property. Initiatives such as Muslim-friendly beach areas and partnerships with local weaving communities reflect a deeper understanding of tourism—one that includes, uplifts, and respects. It’s a model where development does not come at the expense of culture, but instead works alongside it.
Boracay Newcoast, as a whole, feels like a response to a maturing market. With over 1,500 hotel keys across its developments and more in the pipeline, it’s clear that Megaworld and GERI are not just building accommodations, they are curating experiences for different kinds of travelers.
And perhaps that’s what stayed with me most after my visit. Chancellor Hotel Boracay is not trying to compete with Boracay’s iconic White Beach as the hotel complements it. With dedicated transport bringing guests to the front beach when desired, it offers the best of both worlds: access to the familiar, and retreat into something more considered, more contained, and ultimately, more reflective of where travel is heading.
Boracay, it seems, is no longer just about escape. It’s about intention. And at Chancellor Hotel Boracay, that intention is thoughtfully, and beautifully, realized.
