The Department of Tourism (DOT) welcomed the inclusion of El Nido in Palawan in a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) list of the top beach escapes in the world, saying the recognition boosts its global appeal.
DOT officer-in-charge (OIC) Secretary Verna Buensuceso said the distinction underscores El Nido’s status as a premier destination for international travelers.
Known for its powdery white-sand beaches, clear waters, and towering limestone cliffs, El Nido offers a mix of natural beauty and immersive island experiences that draw visitors from around the world.
“Citations such as these affirm the beauty and prestige of the many treasures that weboast to the world. This recognition proves that El Nido, like our other coastal destinations, can offer the same level of quality vacations as our global counterparts,” Buensuceso said.
BBC journalist Francis Augustin, who personally visited the destination, praised El Nido’s island-hopping tours across Bacuit Bay.
He said tourists can swim, kayak, and snorkel while exploring hidden lagoons and beaches, followed by traditional Filipino meals prepared by local guides.
Augustin also highlighted mainland beaches such as Las Cabanas, Lio, and Corong Corong for their scenic sunsets and relaxed atmosphere.
Beyond tourism, the DOT is positioning El Nido as an emerging cruise destination.
This follows the recent port call of the luxury liner MV Luminara, which brought over 200 tourists and provided access to other Palawan destinations, including Coron and Puerto Princesa.
The BBC list, based on firsthand experiences of its writers, trusted travel enthusiasts, and sustainable tourism experts, features less crowded and environmentally conscious destinations.
El Nido joins global beach destinations in New York, Italy, Puerto Rico, India, St. Maarten, Scotland, and Tasmania.
