Cops sent to secure child who asked PBBM for help vs official in Camarines Sur
The Philippine National Police (PNP) sent a police team to secure and conduct investigation into the complaint made by an 11-year old girl to President Marcos in relation to the alleged abuses committed by a barangay official in Tinambac, Camarines Sur.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartataez, Jr. said the police team, some of them from the Women and Children’s Protection Center (WCPC), was tasked to handle the case.
“Following the President's directive, we immediately deployed a specialized team from the WCPC to ensure the safety of the child. We are now coordinating with the DILG in the conduct of a thorough investigation,” Nartatez said.
The deployment of a police team was in response to the commitment of Marcos to send policemen to help secure the girl who made the complaint to the President through a letter.
In the letter, the child detailed serious allegations, including rape committed by the kagawad’s son and aide, as well as threats and harassment against children in their community.
The girl pleaded for protection and the chance to safely continue schooling, saying they are being victimized despite not being involved in politics.
Marcos responded publicly, saying the letter made him very angry and moved him to tears.
He promised to send police to protect the children, investigate those responsible, and ensure the victims can continue their education. He also praised the girl’s courage and assured continued government support.
“The President’s instruction is clear, the rule of law must prevail regardless of their position in the government,” Nartatez said as he called on other victims to come forward and seek help from authorities.
“The PNP will always be here to protect and serve you. Your courage is the first step toward justice. We will make sure that those who exploit their power will face the full force of the law,” he stressed.
