The Philippines may experience below-normal rainfall over most areas this April, while there is a lesser chance of tropical cyclone formation during the month, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
PAGASA said rainfall conditions are expected to be generally “below normal” across most parts of the country, although some areas in Luzon and Visayas may receive “near-normal rainfall.”
Bataan and Cavite are likely to experience “way below-normal rainfall.”
Moreover, PAGASA also only “zero to one” tropical cyclone is expected to enter or develop within the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this month, noting that cyclone activity during April is generally low.
The next tropical cyclone that may enter PAR will be named “Caloy.”
PAGASA noted that climatological tracks for April show four common scenarios for tropical cyclones forming in the western Pacific and approaching the PAR.
These include systems that recurve toward southern Japan or central Japan, as well as those that may cross the central Philippines before turning toward Japan or moving toward Vietnam.
PAGASA said maximum air temperatures for April may reach 40.5 degrees Celsius in Northern Luzon, 40 degrees Celsius in lowland Luzon, 30.2 degrees Celsius in mountainous Luzon, and 39 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila.
In the Visayas and Mindanao, temperatures may peak at 37.2 degrees Celsius in lowland Visayas, 38.2 degrees Celsius in lowland Mindanao, and 34.8 degrees Celsius in mountainous Mindanao.
