2,429 tricycle drivers, fisherfolk in Rosario, Cavite get fuel subsidy
CAVITE – The local government unit (LGU) of Rosario distributed fuel subsidy to tricycle drivers and boat operators affected by the rising fuel prices on Tuesday, March 31.
A total of 1,619 tricycle drivers were given a P500 fuel subsidy, while 810 boat operators received a P1,000 fuel assistance during the distribution led by Mayor Jose Voltaire V. Ricafrente and Vice Mayor Bamm Gonzales.
Rosario Public Information Officer Sid Samaniego told the Manila Bulletin on Wednesday, April 1, that the fuel subsidy for boat operators not only helps ease the burden on fishermen but also supports food security in the community.
Fishing and fish processing are among the coastal town’s main industries.
Tricycles, meanwhile, remain one of the primary modes of transportation for residents, especially in areas not accessible to larger vehicles.
In some barangays, local officials have stepped in to provide P200 fuel subsidies to tricycle drivers, out of their own salaries.
Barangay Bagbag I Captain Willie Cuello provided assistance to 44 tricycle drivers, while Barangay Ligtong IV Captain Kevin Guijosa offered the same fuel aid to 50 tricycle drivers.
While there are no jeepney drivers with routes that come directly from Rosario, the town is home to baby buses. The municipal government earlier extended assistance to baby bus drivers by providing five kilos of rice per driver on March 28.
Samaniego says the LGU is also preparing to distribute aid to delivery riders by next week.
