Siargao int'l game fishing tilt nixed amid fuel suppls
BUTUAN CITY – The local government unit of Pilar in Siargao Islands has canceled this year's 16th International Game Fishing Tournament, citing the ongoing energy crisis in the country.
The annual event, drawing anglers from across the Philippines and abroad, was originally scheduled from April 15 to 18.
"This decision was made in consideration of the current power supply situation and to ensure the safety, convenience, and proper support services for all participants, organizers, and visitors," the LGU said in a statement released on Tuesday.
Officials apologized for the inconvenience to anglers, guests, sponsors, and partners who extended support to the tournament.
"Your understanding and continued support are greatly appreciated," the LGU added.
The local government, in the statement, further announced that possible rescheduling or future activities would be made once the energy situation stabilizes. (PNA)
