DAVAO CITY — Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte on Tuesday, March 31, questioned President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s concern over preserving his administration’s political legacy.
“I find it ironic that Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is worried about anyone undoing his legacy,” Duterte said, alleging that the President’s record would be defined by corruption and governance issues.
The lawmaker accused the administration of failing to address key national concerns, including the rising cost of living and the daily struggles faced by Filipinos.
Duterte emphasized that citizens are more concerned with economic hardships than political legacies.
“Filipinos are not concerned about preserving political legacies—they are concerned about their daily struggles, the rising cost of living, and a government that should be working for them, not for itself,” he added.
Duterte also remarked about political dynamics within Congress, suggesting fear among some lawmakers and criticized what he described as a concentration of influence.
He asserted that legacies are ultimately determined by public judgment and concrete actions rather than rhetoric.
“Legacy is not claimed or protected by words. Actions define it, and ultimately, are judged by the people,” Duterte said.
