Farmer accidentally shoots partner dead in Tanay, Rizal
A 23-year-old farmer accidentally shot and killed his 20-year-old live-in partner in Barangay Mamuyao, Tanay, Rizal, the Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) said Monday, March 30.
Based on the police investigation, the suspect and the victim were supposed to gather coconuts near their home in Sitio Natad.
Prior to leaving, the suspect, identified as alias "Enrico," took his modified air gun converted to shoot .22 caliber cartridges, which he reportedly uses in hunting fruit bats.
As he handled the gun, the rifle suddenly discharged and hit the victim identified as alias "Weng."
The suspect immediately took his partner to his brother, who was living in Barangay Mamuyao, six kilometers away from their home, to seek help in bringing her to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Responding police officers arrested Enrico and seized his rifle and ammunition.
The police said Enrico will be facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act.
