The Department of Tourism (DOT) is encouraging Filipinos to consider smarter and value-driven travel options as it moves to sustain the country’s tourism sector amid rising fuel costs and broader economic pressures.
As financial pressures grow, the DOT said the tourism industry continues to support millions of livelihoods by sustaining local businesses, workers, and communities nationwide.
The department also assured that the Philippines remains open to visitors despite ongoing economic challenges.
In its advisory, the department encouraged Filipinos to consider flexible and value-oriented travel options such as walking and biking tours, farm visits, community-based tourism activities, staycations, and nearby wellness and nature escapes.
It also highlighted opportunities to experience local cuisine and support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
“These alternatives provide flexible ways to rest and travel meaningfully, depending on individual priorities and resources,” the DOT said.
The agency likewise urged travelers to plan ahead and book only with DOT-accredited establishments, noting that these providers ensure quality, safety, and reliability.
It advised the public to check the official list of accredited tourism enterprises before making travel arrangements.
Responsible tourism was also emphasized, with the DOT reminding travelers to respect local cultures, support host communities, and adopt sustainable practices, including conserving energy during trips.
“Be mindful of energy-saving measures in places you stay or visit. Choose sustainable transport, eco-friendly accommodations, and reduce energy consumption by turning off lights, air conditioning unit, and appliances when not in use,” the department said.
For verified travel information and assistance, the DOT encouraged the public to access its official hotline 151-TOUR (151-8687), mobile number 0954-253-3215, email [email protected], website, Facebook page, and the Travel PH App.
