POLICE deployed to ensure peace and order during the Lenten season in Negros Island Region (NIR). (PRO-NIR)
BACOLOD CITY – The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region will deploy 1,000 personnel in the region to ensure a peaceful and orderly observance of the Holy Week from March 29 to April 5.
“As we enter this sacred season of reflection and faith, our police presence goes beyond the prevention of crime,” Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, said in a statement.
Personnel from Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, this highly-urbanized city, and Siquijor, will be stationed in places of worship, major thoroughfares, transportation hubs and terminals, commercial establishments, and other areas of convergence to enhance police visibility, strengthen public safety, and ensure prompt and effective response to any incidents.
The PRO-NIR committed to maintain public safety since the Lenten season is the most widely observed religious event in the country that draws thousands of devotees to travel, gather, and participate in various activities.
“We are here not only as protectors, but as partners in preserving the solemnity and meaning of this holy occasion,” Ibay said.
People were advised to remain vigilant, follow safety protocols, secure their homes before traveling, and immediately report any suspicious activities to the police.
