Padilla defends Guanzon's support for VP Sara, calls PDP-Laban the 'original dilaw'

Senator Robinhood Padilla defended former poll commissioner Rowena Guanzon on Monday, March 30, by stating that the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has historical ties to the so-called “dilaw” , as he questioned criticism directed against her political stance.

In a Facebook post on March 30, Padilla argued that both former president Rodrigo Duterte and PDP-Laban have roots linked to the political movement associated with the late former president Corazon Aquino.
“Pambihira talaga (This is unbelievable), historically Tatay Digong is dilaw, PDP Laban is dilaw!” Padilla wrote, adding that Guanzon was “simply maintaining her dilaw principles.”
The senator questioned why Guanzon’s perceived political stance was being criticized, noting that her alignment should not be surprising. Guanzon has shown support for Vice President Sara Duterte, who has announced her intention to run for president in 2028.
“Anong isyu ninyo kay future senator Atty. Rowena Guanzon? Eh dilaw pa sa dilaw si Attorney. Nakakapagtaka ba na mag Inday Sara siya? (What issue do you have with future Senator Atty. Rowena Guanzon? She’s more ‘yellow’ than yellow itself. Is it surprising that she would support Inday Sara)” he said.
Padilla cited historical events, including PDP-Laban’s role in supporting Aquino during the 1986 snap elections and the subsequent EDSA People Power Revolution that brought her to power.
He also pointed out that Aquino appointed Duterte as officer-in-charge vice mayor of Davao City in 1986, before he later won the mayoralty in the 1988 local elections under a coalition aligned with her administration.
Padilla ended his post by urging the public to research historical facts, saying, “Magsaliksik naman kasi kayo wag puro satsat (Do some research instead of just talking nonsense).”
